Garden Club News

Once again the Oak Point Garden Club is selling tickets for their " Garden Choice" drawing. To be drawn at our May 4th club meeting. In order to give residents more chances to win, we changed the ticket prices to 3 chances for $10 or 1 chance for $5. Please see our bulletin board or a Garden Club Member for details.Tickets will be available at the April 11th Oak Point Open House or from any Garden Club member.

The monies from this fundraiser as well as our other fundraisers, the Oak Point Open House Drawings and our plant sale on May 23rd,will go back to the community by ways that are consistent with our club mission. Last year we gave a $500 Scholarship to a high school senior to further his education in agriculture. We hope to do the same again this year. We are also going to open 2 of our club meetings to all of Oak Point residents free of charge for programs we hope you will find helpful and interesting. The first will be April 6 th on Tree Care with speaker Carl Brodeur and the 2nd will be on June 1st on Indoor Plants & Tropical Plants with speaker Margaret Polito. Our meetings start at 6:30 pm with refreshments, business meeting @ 7pm & speaker at 7:30pm.

This year we are working on developing a new project along with our friends from the Victory Garden. Some of our fund raising money will be used to purchase wildflower and annual flowers to be planted in a plot at the Victory Garden. We hope that this will encourage the bees to increase pollination for a better produce crop. In the fall we will purchase manure from a local farmer to be spread on the gardens. In return we will be asking the Victory Garden Members to share their extra produce with us so we may share with our neighbors here at Oak Point with a "Help-yourself Vegetable Station". The station will be set up at the club house during peak season. We are excited to get this project organized in the spring and summer months ahead.

Garden club members will also be adding a vegetable plant to their own flower gardens to donate. Please help us with making this project a success by filling all of the Victory Garden plots. Sign up will be later this month or April.

Thank you for all your nice compliments and encouragements to our workers when we are working around Oak Point.
