Dear Residents of Oak Point
My name is Ben Quelle, candidate for the Board of Selectman. I am a 3rd generation resident who is campaigning to volunteer my services to the community. I live on Wall Street with my wife Jennifer and our four children Kyla, Jackson, Elaina, and Serena. My family has a rich public service history, including military, teachers, and both local and state law enforcement. I myself am a decorated combat veteran with a constant calling to serve those around me. I launch my campaign not to challenge the incumbency, but to help move this town forward on the important issues that are currently upon us.
The casino debate, rotary project, environmental concerns, schools, public safety, infrastructure costs, contracts, and overall budget strains have all made the last few years extremely stressful for anybody brave enough to hold elected office in Middleborough. Life experiences have taught me that "finger pointing" is simply not a leadership quality. I accept our past as challenging, and look forward to serving on the Board of Selectman as one part of a cohesive unit working to find solutions to our ever increasing financial concerns. I am eager to work with our town manager and numerous committees and department heads to find creative and realistic solutions to a budget that is heading into structural deficit.
Having run for State Representative, and spending countless hours studying the state's budget, I realize that many of the town's current and future budget challenges are greatly a factor of massive mismanagement of tax revenue and expenditure levels on Beacon Hill that are now rolling down into the towns and cities that comprise this Commonwealth. Only through a cooperative effort of the town's department heads and our executive body, the Board of Selectman, will these trying economic times be met in a meaningful way.
I pledge to the residents of Middleborough that I will commit any amount of time and effort necessary to fully understand the issues and cast informative votes at meetings. I will work tirelessly on behalf of my town to budget YOUR money as wisely as possible during these tough economic times. I plan to use both leadership and team building skills learned in the military as part of the five member board. On April 2nd, I respectfully ask for you vote.
Your Fellow Citizen.
Ben Quelle
